No difference, just different terms for the same thing. Regular fishermen who are more attached to the sport will call it a rod while your casual once a year fisherman might call it a pole.

Fishing poles are just a pole made of fiberglass, or carbon fiber that has a wire attached with a hook. A fishing rod is a more complicated fishing lever with a casting tool, and a reel sic casual fisherman use fishing rods because they are more easier to use, and people who don't know what they're talking about and only fish annually call it a pole.

There is no difference.

No difference, each one means the same thing. But only idiots and newbies refer to them as "fishing poles " or just "poles " while seasoned fishermen call them "rods ".

A pole is a stick with a line tied on the end -- whether it's used for sunfish off a dock or for jackpoling tuna off a commercial boat. A rod has guides and a reel seat, and is meant to be used with a reel. Some people don't make this distinction, and call any stick you can fish with a "pole ", but this is slang like calling fishing line "string ".
